In elite sports production and events, every second counts, every detail matters, and everyone needs to perform. A missed angle, or a delayed call can change the course of a game, and careers.
The same pressure also applies to sports officials and team management. Their lens on the game and decisions between plays can make history. Technology and visualisations of play is one of the most critical components to success. So, it’s even more important that the feeds, feeds, and displays are up to par with the demands.
We’re super proud to unveil that our very own espresso Displays are now playing apart in helping to shape the way sporting events broadcast to match officials and team management with Hawk-Eye Innovations.
From Broadcast Booth to Sideline Bench
Hawk-Eye is the force behind some of the most iconic innovations in modern sports broadcast tech.
From VAR and ball-tracking to bio mechanical analysis and live data overlays, Hawk-Eye are trusted by the world’s biggest leagues, federations, and broadcasters. They’ve spent the past two decades enhancing how we watch, analyse, and understand the games we love.
But even in this high-tech ecosystem, there are always challenges and room for improvements, particularly for sideline analysts and medical teams.
Enter espresso Displays to support Hawk-Eye’s next generation of side-line innovation:
To enhance pitch-side replay systems used by analysts, medical, coaches and officials, Hawk-Eye needed a premium, lightweight, and easy display solution. Traditional tablets, with their clunky setups and OS limitations, were no longer fit for purpose.
A Display That Changes the Game
A turning point came when Hawk-Eye discovered espresso Displays. After testing several units, the espresso 15 Pro was selected as the new standard for sideline technology for Hawk-Eye’s latest innovation for on-field analysis.
“The device that espresso has created, has put us in a position to rethink that entire service,” said Joe Cooper, Hardware Manager at Hawk-Eye. “We can make this product better, far superior, and bring the cost down to make it available to further markets.”
The result: a pitch-side solution built around espresso’s 15 Pro. Single-cable simplicity, exceptional brightness, and ultra-portability—wrapped into a kit that travels the world, ready to deploy in seconds.
Working with the espresso Displays team, Hawk-Eye created a replay system tailored for analyst and medical teams. It’s already being used across rugby and football operations, with further rollouts or trials underway with other sporting codes.
Built for the Realities of Sport
Hawk-Eye operates in one of the fastest-moving sectors of sport and broadcast. Their work supports both on-field officiating and behind-the-scenes analysis at the highest level of global competition. Their clients include major events and organisations that many of us would know and love.
From permanent VAR centres in the UK to mobile flight cases used in cricket and tennis, Hawk-Eye needs systems that can scale across sports, teams, and continents.
“It’s not an easy operation. The Sports and broadcast industries are two of the fastest-moving markets to work in, and we Venn diagram almost perfectly across both of them,” Cooper said.
According to Cooper, espresso’s flexibility made a real difference in developing the solution. From testing early units to providing demo stock, the collaboration allowed Hawk-Eye to build and iterate quickly, meeting the needs of testing, updating and innovating to deliver the best solution.
“We’re building systems that can scale - smaller kits, fewer cases, less complexity. With espresso, we’re packing more capability into less space,”
“If we can move a single fly case rather than seven or eight because we’re packing smaller, better monitors in... we would be amiss not to do that,” Cooper added.

Example Use Case: Medical and Analyst Replay
A recent use case for the solution involved medical teams using the kits to instantly review on-field collisions or impacts, helping identify injury risk.Analysts bookmarked and reviewed plays in real time to assist with crucial for halftime strategy and post-game analysis.
“We used a mixture of 15 Touch, 15 Pro and 17 Pro across the stations, and all went down very well,” said Richard Padmore, Rugby Technical Manager, Hawk-Eye Innovations.“The tidiness and sleek nature of each station, as well as how easy it was to carry them out to the US, was excellent.”
